What is WE Design Atlanta?

WE Design is a socially responsible multidisciplinary design organization with 501(c)3 status providing pro bono design services, creative consultation and educational workshops to qualifying charitable entities.  Our work involves supporting local Atlantans and their creative endeavors while partnering with other designers, grass-roots, and creative organizations. “We believe in designing a better world by coming together, sharing together, creating together and ultimately succeeding together!”

What is FORM: artistic independence 2011?

FORM: artistic independence 2011 is WE Design Atlanta’s fourth installment of published works from artists throughout the Atlanta area.  This year’s book format is 10″ x 10″, case bound first edition press book.  FORM is locally designed, printed and published.

What type of artwork can be submitted for inclusion?

We encourage artists and designers of all mediums to submit your works for consideration.  Requirements for preliminary submissions are as follows:

  • -300dpi
  • -.jpeg format
-maximum of 10 submissions
  • -must live in 100 miles of Atlanta
-art work must have been created in the last 3 years

*We encourage works to be professionally photographed for submission
**WE Design reserves the right to make the final selection of all works and may edit images, statements and quotations in accordance with the layout of the publication

Who can submit work?

Any artist or designer residing within 100 miles of Atlanta.  All work must be original and completed in the last 3 years.

Does participating cost anything?

This year WE Design Atlanta aims to publish FORM: artistic independence 2011 at absolutely no cost to the artists selected for publication.  We have established a Kickstarter fund with the goal of $5,000 to cover publication and promotion of the book; the more money we raise, the more copies of FORM: artistic independence we will be able to publish.  In order to reach this goal, we are asking you, the artist to help spread the word about our Kickstarter.  Use social media, word of mouth and any other creative method you can think up to get us at or beyond our funding goal.

Important Note:

If our funding goal is not met, selected artists will be responsible for the cost of publication, as in past editions of FORM: artistic independence.  WE Design Atlanta will choose up to 10 of your submissions for publication, and will provide a suggested page layout. Each page is the book costs $25, and artists decide how many pages they want to pay for.

How many works can I submit?

The maximum number of submissions per artist is 10.

Are there any restrictions for submitting work?

Work must be original work of artist and completed in the last 3 years.  There is a maximum of 10 submissions per artist.  Artists must submit an entry form to be considered and follow preliminary submission guidelines:

  1. 300 dpi
  2. .jpeg format
-maximum of 10 submissions
  3. must live in 100 miles of Atlanta

When is the last day I can submit work for inclusion in FORM: artistic independence 2011?

All work must be submitted by 12 pm on Friday, September 30, 2011.

I have an online portfolio or online gallery, can I submit a link to my work?

Unfortunately, due to the large number of submissions we are not able to look through personal or group portfolios.  We will only accept a maximum of 10 submissions per artist or group.

How much will the book cost?

The price for the 10″ x 10″ first press hard cover edition will be sold at cost to artists (one per artist).  The book will retail for $59.  The soft cover edition available through Amazon.com will retail for $24.95 and will be also offered at cost to participating artists (at cost prices TBA).

Where will the book be sold?

FORM Artistic Independence 2011 will be available at Wonderroot Community Arts Center, Criminal Records, Bee Hive Co-op, and Amazon.com.  You can also check back and visit our home page for new and up-to-date locations added to our retail list.

Where do the proceeds go?

Sales from FORM: artistic independence will go to WE Design Atlanta to aid in our non-profit mission and the development of future projects.

Are works submitted automatically entered into the cover design competition?

Yes.

What is the cover design competition?

One submission will be chosen by WE Design Atlanta to represent the soft cover edition of FORM: artistic independence 2011 available through Amazon.com.  Three preliminary finalists will be chosen by the WE Design team and recognized at the FORM book release party at MINT Gallery on Saturday, December 17, 2011.  Participants will present their work and have their cover design voted on by members of the art and design community.

How do I know if I was chosen as a preliminary finalist for the cover design competition?

WE Design will send an announcement within two weeks of the close of preliminary submissions on September 30th to those artists who are chosen as finalists for the cover design competition.
